What did CM do for the Honahar Merit Scholarship Program?
According to CM Punjab, 30,000 students representing 68 different academic fields will receive scholarships annually through this program. Fifty public institutions, sixteen medical colleges, and 123 graduate schools will also receive the scholarships.
This scheme will provide financial assistance to 125,000 students, totaling 130 billion rupees over four years.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the chief minister of Punjab, increased the number of scholarships and approved the “Punjab Honahar Merit Scholarship” program in July.
At a Saturday special meeting of the Higher Education Department, the Chief Minister declared that the scholarships will pay for eight eligible private colleges and 100% of the tuition fees for students seeking BS degrees at public universities.
Maryam highlighted the importance of private sector assistance for higher education, especially for students from rural or remote areas.

Who is eligible to apply for the Punjab Honahar Merit Scholarship?
The scholarship is open to students from various academic fields, including public universities, private colleges, and graduate schools. Specifically, the eligibility criteria include:
- Orphaned students whose parents have passed away.
- Special (disabled) students.
- Children of government employees in grades 1 to 4.
- Children of civilians who were martyred in terrorist attacks.
- Students belonging to minority religions.
- Children of divorced or separated women.
Eligibility Criteria
- Students belonging to the relevant particular quota category are eligible to apply.
- Students who have obtained at least 60% marks in the 2024 (annual) Matriculation/Intermediate examination conducted under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education or the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education are also eligible.
- Students from federal government/private registered educational institutions located within the boundaries of Punjab province can apply.
However, applicants must have been admitted to a full-time (regular) registered educational institution for Intermediate or Graduation in 2024. The total monthly income of the parents must be 60,000 PKR or less. Children of government employees in grades 1 to 4 are exempt from the condition of a 60,000 PKR monthly income (if the source of income is only salary). Children of civilians who were martyred in terrorist attacks are also exempt from the monthly income condition. Students wishing to apply for admission to medical colleges must upload a copy of their MCAT result card.
Application Procedure
Click the “Apply Online” button to provide accurate information when submitting your online application. Attach the relevant category certificate in PDF format (File Size must be 2MB). After submitting the application, keep the diary number displayed on the screen for further information and correspondence. The institution will contact students shortlisted in the special quota category. Applications will be rejected in case of incorrect information or an incomplete application process. The applicant will not have the right to recourse.
Note:
Applications will not be considered if the required category certificate is not attached.
- Students who have passed their exams under PBTE/TEVTA are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
- Students from other provinces, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir, are also not eligible to apply.
- Students applying for marks improvement or repeating courses are not eligible to apply.
