Government of Punjab Approves School Buses and Electric Bikes for Students

Government of Punjab in collaboration with Bank of Punjab has announced an innovative initiative to facilitate the students on their education journey with accessible, low cost transportation. The [Punjab Electric Bike Scheme Announced For Students] scheme endeavors to make travelling to and from schools/to educational sites less cumbersome for children, saving youngsters time, as well effort and finance.

The program will equip students through affordable electric and petrol bikes and makes an attempt for transforming their lives for a brighter future making way for regular school and good academic performance. Electric Bikes

  • Total: 1,000
  • For Male Students: 700
  • For Female Students: 300
  • Phase 1 1st Round: Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rawalpindi, Lahore.

Petrol Bikes

  • Total: 19,000
  • For Male Students: 11,676
  • For Female Students: 7,324
  • Government Subsidy

Both these e-bike styles enable students to manage their own logistics, and the Punjab Government is offering a subsidy of Rs 1 billion for this purpose.

Eligibility Criteria

This program is a great initiative by which over 800,000 students across Punjab will be benefited. Students are eligible, if they satisfy the following criteria:

  • Be over 18 years old.
  • Regular student of a degree college or university recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
  • Have a motorcycle learner’s permit or driving license.
  • If this reaches more than the allocations available, then an electronic draw will be held to ensure a fairness.

Which are the eligible candidates?

Only Regular Students of the universities/degree awarding institutions (recognized by the HEC) are eligible to apply. His or her educational institution will verify student’s status.

How can students apply?

The only way to apply is through the EEA and Norwegian Financial Mechanisms—essentially an online application system located at www. bikes. punjab. gov.pk. Physical applications will not be accepted.

What kinds of bikes are there?

Could students alter their plans after applying?

Students can switch their bike choice until April 29, 2024.

Can girls apply for petrol bikes?

Do you need a driving license?

All the applicants should have a driving license or a learner’s permit for motorcycles irrespective to gender of the applicant.

Is it possible for a student to apply for both E-Bike and Petrol-Bike?

Answer: Students cannot apply for different bike categories.

Can I pay in installments?

Bank of Punjab will offer an easy installment plan to each of the successful applicant. The plan is obligatory to hold by students but the repayment can be made earlier if the student wants.

Is the price being offered inclusive of the registration cost?

Whether brother/sister application is allowed in this scheme?

A: Yes, siblings can apply, and when more than one sibling gets selected, one sibling will be successful balled and get the bike.

Financial Assessment of Guarantor/Co-Borrower of The Bank of Punjab Bikes will only be issued to those who pass this test.

What is the procedure for Balloting?

The balloting is electronically done by Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB)

How are quotas allocated?

E-Bike Quotas are divided among gender and city, and P-Bike Quotas are divided among district population

Can any student apply who study in Virtual university?

You will need to be a regular student who attends a university (an actual campus) on a daily basis, otherwise no;

How much can a bike cost?

The finance cap is Rs. 250,000 for E-Bikes and Rs. 150,000 for P-Bikes. If a bike is more than $750, then the student must cover the difference upfront.

Can public funds be poured into it?

Yes, and that a subsidy of approximately Rs. 1 billion by the government to provide the 30% cover of upfront equity and the entire loan mark-ups.
